Configuring Papers for iOS to work with your library proxy

A little bit about proxies

Even if you are not on your university's network, you can still access the same resources through a library proxy. There are different types of proxies, but a common one is EZProxy, which allows users to sign into a proxy server which acts on behalf of a computer being used in a remote location (you!). The proxy makes it possible for staff and students to access the university library's electronic resources from any location (whether you're at a cafe around the corner, or on a beach!). The proxy server is used to restrict access to the electronic resources for which your library has to pay licensing fees, and are therefore only available to staff and students from your university.

Using a proxy, you can easily access new articles from within papers. All you need to do it set up papers to use your library's proxy and you're on your way.

Every institution has a unique proxy. If you're unsure what your correct proxy settings are ask your librarian/IT administration for this.

Setting up Papers to work with your library proxy

• In the sidebar, tap Settings then scroll down to the Proxy Settings area.

• Put your university's proxy settings in the text box.

• Sometimes you may also need to login/authenticate to access PDFs. Below is example of the kind of screen you may encounter (this will look different from institution to institution). Once you login, you should be able to access the PDF you're after.

• Contact your institution's library if you're unsure of your login name and/or password.
