I have a Sente library with lots of PDF attachments that I would like to import into Papers2. How can I do that while retaining the PDF files I have attached to the references?

I should add, the importing related improvements highlighted above will be made available in the upcoming 2.1 beta 3.

@Luuk: in the upcoming 2.1 beta 3, the file URLs in the bibtex file should also be handled correctly such that you are able to import PDFs from a bibtex file.

I would love to try it but unfortunately my 30 day trial period ran out before I managed to import my EndNote library successfully.

Sorry about that. If you are interested, you can also simply reset your library and start from scratch as follows:

    • quit Papers2 if it's running (also make sure the Manuscripts icon is gone in the menu bar, which may require you turn Manuscritps off in the preferences)
    • throw away the file /Users/your_name/Library/Preferences/com.mekentosj.papers2.plist
    • throw away the folder /Users/your_name/Documents/Papers2 (or it might be next to your Papers1 library in another location)
    • throw away the folder /Users/your_name/Library/Application Support/Papers2
    • Start Paper2 again

    (See also http://support.mekentosj.com/kb/papers1/migrating-your-papers1-libr...)

Note that on OS 10.7 Lion, to access your Library folder, you need to use the Go menu in the Finder and press the option key. This will add a 'Library' item to the list, and will give you access to the hidden folder.

This will also reset the trial...

    Best wishes,

    Charles

Not 100% sure, we are still working on some crashes, and it might still be a week, though the goal is really to have it tomorrow or Tuesday if all goes right....

    Hi Luuk,

We have just released 2.1beta3, you can give it a try by activating the beta version notifications in the general tab of the Papers preferences. We would be curious to hear your experiences.
    Best wishes,
    Alex

I have just upgraded to the latest Papers and would like to import my Sente library. How do I do this? I could not find any examples.

    Thanks,
    Neil

Well that was 2011 and this is 2013 with a new version of papers which I just tried again. I am afraid things haven't improved. I experted some 600 refs from Sente in BixTex format (unicode) almost all of which had pdf attachments and imported the lot into a brand new database in Papers2. Two problems were immediately apparent:
    1. Only a handful of all 600 references had their attachments imported

2 As happened a few ago when I first tried papers, I ended up with more bibliographical entries than I started with. This may be normal (if so please explain why this is happening), but I find it very disconcerting

I just migrated to Papers 2 from Sente 6, and using the endnote XML format as an intermediary seems to work great. Papers found all my pdfs and got all of the citation information right, too.
