Reload page via proxy
In Papers v1, option-command-L reloads a page using your library proxy. Is there a way to do this in Papers 2?
That hotkey was remapped for Livfe, and the only other selection I've found is Open Library Website, shift-command-L, which opens a new tab with the library proxy.

I'm also having this problem, which makes it difficult to work with Papers off-campus. Are we overlooking a menu item somewhere?

Papers2 doesnt seem to be using the proxy for me as well. How do I force it use it?
Support Staff 5 Posted by matias on 09 Mar, 2011 11:21 PM
This has changed a bit from Papers1:
Hit Cmd+R to reload with the proxy.
Hit Ctrl+Cmd+R to reload without the proxy.
Best wishes

Doesn't work for me. Is this working for anyone else?
7 Posted by samsauma on 10 Mar, 2011 04:03 AM
Doesn't work for me, my school is not listed under the list of schools in the Preferences>Access window.
Thomas Jefferson University
The option for "Other" is no longer there. So I either choose "None" or a school that I don't have access to.................

@Matias, that is not always true. The search engine loads pages using the proxy, except search results that originate from PubMED.
I had email contact with Alex and he suggested removing the exception listed in the settings. After doing this, all search results use proxy, including the pubmed ones.
@Samsauma, If your university is not listed and you have the EZproxy URL, email it to the support email address. I did so too for my university and some hours later, my university was added to the list!
Yours,
Rob

Hi Rob
Sorry, that is indeed correct, PubMed is by default in the blacklist for EZProxies! Thanks for pointing that out, ROb. And Please keep posting those EZProxy servers, we'll add them as fast as we can.
Best wishes

Why did the INSERM proxy disappear from the list ?
Please add it again.
The name is BiblioINSERM
The URL for login is http://gate2.inist.fr/login
The URL for redirecting is http://gate2.inist.fr/login?url=%@
For now it works but I have to specify "Others" in the proxy list and put some real redirecting link in the Library link, like pubmed :
http://gate2.inist.fr/login?url=http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/e...
Thanks
Support Staff 11 Posted by matias on 10 Mar, 2011 10:37 AM
Christophe: the INSERM entry I added yesterday turned out to be a duplicate -- we have one named "Bibliovie (INIST-CNRS)" currently. Will rename to BiblioInserm for clarity. We also have http://chimie.gate.inist.fr/login?url=%@ listed as INIST-CNRS. If there's a better descriptive name for this, please let us know. Thanks for posting the URL!
samsauma: please send us the EZProxy URL for Thomas Jefferson, please?
Best wishes

@mathias Dear Mathias
There are actually two different entities
the BiblioVie is the CNRS portal
the Biblioinserm is the INSERM portal
You should thus have 2 possibilities
Kind regards

Hi Jean-Daniel, sorry, I was a bit unclear before. Here's the current list of relevant servers:
BiblioINSERM (Server 1)
http://gate1.inist.fr/login?url=%@
BiblioINSERM (Server 2)
http://gate2.inist.fr/login?url=%@
Bibliovie (INIST-CNRS)
http://chimie.gate.inist.fr/login?url=%@
Thanks
Matias

Hi matias,
I think you got a confusion here. Both CNRS and INSERM are managed through INIST, with gate1 for CNRS and gate2 for INSERM.
BiblioVie (INIST-CNRS) is
http://gate1.inist.fr/login?url=%@
BiblioINSERM (INIST-INSERM) is
http://gate2.inist.fr/login?url=%@
the last one must be a chemistry-specific Bibliovie server ,although I don't know it.
http://chimie.gate.inist.fr/login?url=%@
Hope that is more clear, trying to understand french administration is always a cryptic adventure.

Maybe the best would be to have the url written next to the proxy name in the Preferences dropdown menu, so even with some mix-up in the names someone can recognize which one is good for him.

Thanks Christophe for the clarification! Being able to see the URL might indeed prevent these sort of problems -- we'll look into it.

Thanks!

I've added the Thomas Jefferson University and National University of Singapore EZProxies, thanks very much!
Mike: the NUS EZProxy turns up later today into the list of library proxies (it's populated from a central list of EZProxy servers which we are building up). It will also be available for all other academics using Papers at NUS, thanks to you. The reason I ask you to inform us of EZProxy URLs is because it is not possible for us to test them without knowing the address, and a valid username and password, hence we rely on users reporting them. There is no central registry for these library proxy servers (that's why we're building one now in Papers2).
Best wishes

EZProxy for Vanderbilt University is
http://proxy.library.vanderbilt.edu/login?url=
Could you add this to the list?

Do I need to re-download Papers2 in order for TJU to show up?

Hi there
Added Vanderbilt University too, thanks! No need to download Papers2 again, the list will be updated later today automatically.

Matias,
Thanks very much for adding Vanderbilt's EZProxy server to the list, but it doesn't seem to be working. I chose Vanderbilt from the list, logged in to the library's website in a Papers tab, opened a PubMed search result, followed the link to the journal's website, and hit command-R. The page reloads, but it doesn't seem to be going through the library's proxy server. Opening the same journal's site through EZProxy in Chrome works as expected, though.
Could you take a look at http://libstaff.library.vanderbilt.edu/libweb/ezproxy.html and make sure that the Vanderbilt entry you've added to the list is set up correctly?
Thanks,
Akshay

@akshay: the EZProxy URL is set up as http://proxy.library.vanderbilt.edu/login?url=, as instructed by the site you helpfully forwarded. Are you perhaps trying to fetch PubMed search results through the proxy? Try removing http://eutils.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov from the "Except for" list in the Access preferences tab. We disable PubMed by default because many EZProxy servers are misconfigured not to accept Medline/PubMed URLs.

The University of Minnesota doesn't seem to be working either. In 1.9.6, the following works:
http://floyd.lib.umn.edu/login?url=%@

Just an update: it does send you to the login page for the University of Minnesota, but logging in just variously gives me a blank page (seems to be mostly when it comes from a Pubmed search result), a "page not found" or similar error (Nature and Science from a Google Scholar result, for a couple of papers), or works OK in the case of ScienceDirect from a Google Scholar result. All of these papers work just fine from Papers 1.9.6 or the iPad app. Bah.

University of Nottingham (UK): http://ezproxy.nottingham.ac.uk/login
cmd+r does not work, reloads the page but normally, not with the proxy. ctrl+cmd+r does not do anything, just a funny noise.
Support Staff 29 Posted by matias on 12 Mar, 2011 03:45 PM
Andy: Let us know if it works with the updated EZProxy URL you posted (not online yet, will be on Monday the latest). One problem might be that you're accessing URLs from PubMed searches. By default we disable using EZProxy for paper URLs coming from the host http://eutils.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov (medline/pubmed), because many proxy servers are not configured to accept this and return cryptic error messages to users instead.
Paco: you're correct, sorry for my earlier mistaken post. We're going to re-introduce a function similar to the "Login/authenticate' present in Papers 1.x which forces reloading the page through the proxy.
Thanks for your patience!
Matias
Support Staff 30 Posted by matias on 12 Mar, 2011 03:46 PM
Paco: ... but rather than calling it "Login/authenticate" which isn't the clearest description for it really, just make Cmd+R force reloading with the proxy.
