Change publication type (not article kind)
I am very happy that Papers2 now supports conference proceedings. However, all my conferences have been classified as Periodicals. How do I change a publication type from a Periodical to a Conference? It seems that once Papers2 has decided that a publication source is a Periodical, I cannot change it to a Conference. I can only choose what kind of periodical the publication source is.
I would like to be able to change the class of a publication source in the following places:
- when editing a paper
- when editing a publication source (conference, periodical, web site)
Thanks.

I had a similar problem with the publication type but it seems to work for me to drag and drop over Articles all the Periodicals you want as Conference Proceedings and then it gives you the option to change the type. You can even convert them once they are already in Articles.
Hope that is somewhat helpful.

The conference input is used for the presentations and the proceedings. So:
1) Select the publication you want
2) Click edit
3) On the top of the edit panel (above the title) select Article->Conference proceedings
4) There you will be able to add the Conference Title and City.
5) It will then automatically show in Conferences. Not immediately though, usually it is shown next time you start Papers2

Thanks for the replies! I get your reply Georgios and it works. I can't quite understand what Rhain wants to explain.
If I drag a article which' source type is a Periodical, I cannot drop it into the Conference category. What am I supposed to drag, and where am I supposed to drop it? Drag and drop would be great as this would allow me to batch process stuff.

Glad I helped!
What Rhain is saying is basically that if you drag an article on the Article section it will pop up a menu that will ask you what type of article is this and there you can again select it to be Proceeding and continue as I described above.

Thanks Georgios for the explanation!

Hello,
Is there another way to convert periodicals to conference? Why can't we simply drag a periodical to conferences?
Indeed converting around a thousand periodicals to conferences by changing the kind of each article is not feasible in practice...
Maybe I missed something.

The correct way to convert a periodical to a conference is to convert the associated paper to the right type. If you convert a journal article to a conference proceeding, the journal will now be converted to a conference.
Best wishes,
Alex

Certainly correct for a dozen articles but for more than two thousand articles collected over several years of paper 1, this process is clearly not usable. In CS, we tend to have more conference articles than in other science community, it seems.
I liked a lot paper 1, paper 2 is not that bad BUT in my opinion you have forgotten those people like me that have huge library collected using paper 1. We clearly need more operation to act on a selection of papers rather than a paper...
More generally, I do not understand why so much operations seem to be limited to a single selection...

Fabien: note that you can convert a bunch of papers by dragging them all into the category of your choice in the source list (e.g Books for book chapters etc...) and Papes will then ask you the subtype and will convert them all at once as well as the journals into conferences for instance. Even if the papers are alreY articles, you can still drag them into Articles and change the subcategory this way.

This comment was split into a new private discussion: Cite conference proceeding
How do you cite the conference proceedings properly?
It just removes the name of the conference in my set-up!
